From the Classroom to the Mission Field: Testimonies Supporting the Bibleless

“My heart has been opened to the word of God simply by helping those who do not have the Bible in their language.” This is a testimony from a grade nine pupil at one of our partner schools in Nakuru. Sun and Shield School, located along the Nakuru-Marigat road and neighboring Kabarak University, has been a valued partner, allowing its learners to support the Run for the Bibleless initiative in Nakuru since its inaugural run in 2022.
We had an opportunity on Saturday, June 21st, to visit the school to share updates on the progress of our translation work and to highlight how their support has been instrumental to the Bibleless community. The meeting was attended by our Executive Director, Rev. Peter Munguti, who led a team from BTL. We were warmly welcomed by Prof. Gladys Jerobon, Director of Sun and Shield School, along with Chairman Prof. Henry Kiplangat and various staff and student leaders.
To strengthen the partnership, the school presented testimonies highlighting the positive impact of participating in the Run for the Bibleless on them. The School Director, Prof. Gladys, mentioned that over the past four events, there has been a steady increase in the number of learners demonstrating moral growth and aligning with biblical teachings. A statement that was echoed by the school chairman, Prof. Henry, who noted that this increase has greatly influenced their efforts to reach the Bibleless communities.
The school is grounded in Psalm 84:11, which states, “For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord bestows favor and honor; no good thing does He withhold from those whose walk is blameless.” The school believes that reaching Bibleless groups is a great commission that they want their learners to embrace from an early age.
The school president mentioned that, in their current location, it is difficult to reach many minority communities simply by walking to their homes. However, thanks to the opportunities provided by BTL, they can connect with these communities by walking and running. In a joint agreement, the administration acknowledged that having a conversation with God and understanding His Word in one’s heart language is invaluable. Through their prayers, the school has committed to praying for the Marakwet and Tugen communities they are associated with so that these communities may receive the Word in their native language.
