The Marakwet ‘Beehive’ is Complete
July 29, 2026by BTL CommsBlog
What a time and season to witness the completion of the Marakwet full Bible after several years of translation! Some of the key milestones in the translation include;
- Translation work launched in 1983.
- Owing to several challenges, including insecurity and the complexity of developing a writing system, progress was slow until late 1992, when linguistic research on the language resumed.
- In 1996, the New Testament translation gained momentum and progressed steadily, culminating in its dedication and launch in 2009.
- Three years later, in 2012, work on the Old Testament translation was launched. To the glory of God, the Marakwet full Bible is now complete and will be dedicated this weekend.

Marakwet men hold a beehive as a symbolic representation of the Marakwet complete Bible they were requesting from BTL during the launch of the Old Testament translation in 2012. We join the Marakwet staff in inviting you to the dedication and launch of their Bible on Saturday, August 1, 2026, at Tot Primary School in Elgeyo Marakwet County, starting at 10:00 a.m. We will also be bringing the dedication ceremony to you live on our YouTube Channel. The Lord has done well to the Marakwet community. May His name be praised! “He has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.” Psalm 126:3
