Milestones in the Ilchamus New Testament Translation

October 6, 2022by BTL CommsBlog

As the Ilchamus New Testament dedication draws near on Saturday, 8th October 2022, at Loitip Primary School, Marigat in Baringo County,  we take a flashback to some of the accomplishments realized within the 16 years of the translation.

2006: Foundational work began which included development of the writing system (orthography) of the Ilchamus language.

2015: Gospel of Matthew was completed and dedicated

2017: Gospel of Luke was completed and dedicated

2018: Some Epistles were dedicated (Acts, 1 Corinthians, Galatians & Philemon)

These Scripture portions are currently the only “Bible” the Ilchamus have access to in their language.

Photo: Rev. Robert Parteneu, Ilchamus Project Officer raises some of the Epistles dedicated in 2018

2020: BTL in partnership with friends of BTL flagged off food and medical supplies to 910 households among the Ilchamus community in Marigat, Baringo County.

2021: Old Testament translation commenced and is ongoing. Within the same year, BTL commissioned the construction of the Project office which was completed and launched.

2022: On October 8, 2022, BTL will hand over the completed Ilchamus New Testament to the community for use in their congregations.

Praise God!
